The Aqua Ionizer Deluxe 5.0 is perfect for anyone looking for an affordable alkaline water machine that takes up little space on their kitchen counter.
You obviously won’t get the same performance and range of features as a $1,000+ water ionizer.
The Deluxe 5.0 has a more limited ORP range, the pH range is also smaller (it doesn’t produce very acidic water), and the integrated filter lasts for just a year before you need to replace it.
It also uses an outdated and inefficient transformer power system. That’s understandable considering it has been around for several years.
But it still boats some great features and options.
You can select from seven water settings, it uses high-performance self-cleaning plates, and is fitted with an intuitive and easy to use control panel.
One other feature we particularly like is that you can opt to install it on the countertop or under the counter, though you’ll need to buy a separate installation kit for the latter.
Read on for our full review.
If you are looking for a more powerful water ionizer, we have some great picks in our best water ionizer reviews guide.
Our main concern when reviewing this water ionizer was whether the missing fourth digit in its price tag would seriously affect its performance.
Can a 3-digit price water ionizer impress? Yes, it can, and it did.
As I mentioned, you won’t get the same level of performance as a $1,000+ alkaline water machine.
But the Deluxe 5.0 is still powerful enough for most people’s needs.
The main difference between this model and other pricier ones is that it doesn’t produce highly acidic water, which is great for cleaning and skincare.
But since most people use only alkaline water anyway, which the Deluxe 5.0 produces up to pH 11, you’ll most likely find it good enough for your drinking needs.
This model’s slightly reduced performance is mostly because it has fewer plates than other larger and more expensive models.
While top-end water ionizers can have as many as 11 plates and mid-range ones have around 7-9, the Deluxe 5.0 has only five platinum-coated titanium plates.
Since the number of plates directly affects the level of ionizing power, the Deluxe 5.0 achieves a limited pH range.
But it’s not limited in the direction where it matters most– alkaline water.
On the left side of the scale (acid), it only goes to 5.0. If you want a water ionizer that can produce stronger acidic water for cleansing your skin or disinfecting surfaces, this is not it.
However, on the important right side of the scale (alkaline), it goes as high as 11.
Between pH 8 and pH 11, you have a versatile range of alkaline water to drink and use in cleaning (highly alkaline water is great for removing stains on fabric and upholstery).
If you are only interested in an ionizer that can produce alkaline ionized water, the Deluxe 5.0 is a great option.
ORP stands for Oxidation-Reduction Potential. It’s a measure of the antioxidant power of water. The lower or more negative the ORP value, the more antioxidant benefits that particular water has.
The same way the number of plates affects the pH range, it also determines the ORP range.
The Deluxe 5.0 has a range between -600 and +600, which is smaller compared to most top-end models that can easily achieve values as low as -1,000.
But -600 is still low enough to provide you with plenty of antioxidant benefits. In fact, it’s in the same ballpark as most other water ionizers that cost twice as much.
Whether you want to reduce inflammation, prevent heart burns, make your skin look younger or boost your energy levels, the Deluxe 5.0 is a great choice.
Between pH 5.0 and 11.0, the intuitive control panel lets you choose between seven types of water.
2 levels acidic water: Good for cleaning and cosmetic use
Purified water: Good for taking medicine and making baby food
4 levels alkaline water: Good for drinking and cooking
Now, you don’t want to start right away with the highest level of alkalinity. Even seasoned alkaline water drinkers rarely drink water that strong.
The first level (around pH 8) is the best for initial drinking. It acclimatizes your body to the water.
The second level (around pH 9) is ideal for daily drinking after you’ve gotten your body used to alkaline water. The third and fourth levels are good for brewing tea, cooking, and cleaning.
The Deluxe 5.0 uses a built-in activated carbon filter to remove impurities like fine sediment, chlorine, some heavy metals and various organic chemicals from your tap water.
This ensures that you not only drinking healthy ionized water but also safe and clean water.
The filter has a capacity of 4,000 liters or around 1,000 gallons. It’s good for about one year, and then you have to replace it.
Note that this filter only works with chlorinated city water.
If you receive well water in your home, this water ionizer is not ideal for you.
The Deluxe 5.0 water ionizer comes with all the parts you need to install it on your countertop. These include tubes for redirecting water from the tap to the unit and draining acidic water away.
You don’t need to buy any extra fittings.
Overall installation takes 15 minutes or less.
Note that this unit installs on your countertop and has its own water outlet hose. You connect it to your faucet (it’s compatible with most types of faucets), plug it into an outlet and it’s ready to use.
If you have no space on your counter or don’t want to install it there, you can also set it up under the sink. You’ll have to buy a separate installation kit from the manufacturer.
Because it has self-cleaning plates, there’s very little maintenance to be done.
You only need to replace the filter once a year, a quick 10-minute job. You’ll also need to manually clean the plates once a year using the cleaning solution included in the package.Manual cleaning removes any scale and minerals that have accumulated on the plates. It also flushes out scale in other components including the tubes.
This water ionizer is great value for your money.
It is one of the cheapest water ionizers in the market, and yet it provides some of the same features you find in pricier models.
There are multiple water options to choose from, a filter to clean up the water and a digital control panel that is a breeze to use.
In terms of water quality, you’ll enjoy all the benefits of alkaline ionized water for way less money.
We also love how easy it is to install –15 minutes max and no money spent on a pro.
If you have a small or crowded countertop, you’ll appreciate the compact design that takes up very little space next to the sink.If you have no countertop space to spare, you have the option of installing it out of sight under the counter. You’ll have to spend a bit more money on an installation kit, but at least you get to still use your water ionizer.
We talk a lot about the benefits of alkaline water, but acidic water has its uses too.
For one, it’s great for your skin and hair. It has anti-bacterial effects and maintains your skin and scalp at the optimal pH level.
It is also good for cleaning, again thanks to its anti-bacterial properties. You can use acidic water to disinfect the surface and even sterilize wounds.
Unfortunately, the Aqua Ionizer Deluxe 5.0 only produces weak acidic water. You can still use it for the above applications, but it is not as effective as strong acidic water (pH 2- pH 4).
The unit’s ORP range is also limited compared to that of high-end models. -800 and below would have been great but a minimum of -600 is still impressive, especially for the price. When you consider that some models that cost double have roughly the same ORP range, the Deluxe 5.0 is actually quite powerful.
Buying a water ionizer doesn’t have to be a bank-bursting experience. The Deluxe 5.0 provides healthy alkaline ionized water at an affordable price.
If you have been thinking about buying an alkaline water machine for your home, but the prices discourage you, the Aqua Ionizer Deluxe 5.0 is for you.
It is easier on your budget and provides equally beneficial ionized water as other more expensive machines.
