The municipal water companies have a target (the MCLG) to eliminate most or all potentially harmful contaminants in the drinking water.

Some components are toxic in large amounts but aren't proven to be harmful, or it is very rare to be dangerous in small quantities. The body might even require them as trace-minerals in tiny amounts. It's a big job that the water businesses take on, to continuously examine and clean up your water, but most municipalities can do an excellent job of cleaning up the water which comes to your faucet at a fairly reasonable price.

It's very likely your water quality exceeds the MCLG in many contaminants, but doesn't exceed the MCL. It's punishable for the water district to not meet the MCL and the MCLG is placed there as a target, but not enforced.

Electric Water Ionizers: One huge benefit of electrical water ionizers is they are continuous-flow filtration systems. In other words, they're always ready to provide you with the exact amount of ionized water daily. There's no “wait time." Additionally, electric water ionizers clean fluoride, because fluoride is acidic and will be eliminated from the acidic flow for the most part.

Filtering Fluoride

We recommend that you eliminate fluoride from your municipal water if your water company adds it. In nature, one finds small quantities of fluoride, and in minimal amounts, it's very likely to be fine, but many researchers are discovering learning disabilities and Alzheimer's disease related to fluoridated water. Water Filters and Filter Media

Although there are infinite ways to combine filter media, there are only a limited number of filter-media types, so it is easy enough for everyone to understand.

Make sure to focus on the ratings of the filter you intend to buy so that you can see precisely what that filters will manage. Also look closely at the life-span of this filter, because eventually, any fantastic filter will lose its capacity to filter. The lesser chemicals and dissolved solids the water contains, the longer real life a filter has. Carbon Filter Media

Since it's very stable, it's quite tricky to eliminate from the water, until Super-carbon, it was only possible to eliminate chloramines with a moderate flow through multiple activated carbon filters.

Activated Alumina Filter Media

Activated alumina helps to get rid of Arsenic and Fluoride from the water. It will trap the following hard-to-remove components in the filter with a definite chemical bonding procedure.

UltraWater Filter

It's a good block filter created with a proprietary combination of all the ideal filter media, and as a result of its block formation, the water is forced through the filter press rather than channeled. Ceramic Filters

Ceramic filters have microscopic pores which will not let microorganisms or sediments through. They don't eliminate chemicals unless they also contain another filter media, such as active carbon, within them.

Ultra .01 Micron Filter Fibers

Ultra .01 Micron Filter Fibers are sometimes built into specific multi-stage filters [like some water ionizers have .01 filter choices]. The fibers are so small that they won't permit any germs through, even viruses! Therefore, in their efficiency, they're much like ceramic filters, just better.


KDF is an abbreviation for Kinetic Degradation Fluxion Media and is a filter media composed of an alloy of zinc and aluminum used to effectively eliminate dozens of chemical, organic and heavy metal contaminants from water.

KDF is used in restaurants, hospitals, municipal water treatment and can be found in several filters nowadays. KDF is scientifically formulated to eliminate more chlorine, chloramines, and heavy metals. Not only is KDF successful in removing contaminants, like compounds and heavy metals, but it will also kill algae and fungi and will prevent bacterial growth.

There are two primary variants of KDF: KDF 55 and KDF 85. Both KDF 55 and KDF 85 are considered the same, but KDF 85 is better than KDF 55. It'll remove everything that KDF 55 eliminates, but also removes sulfur and iron exceptionally well. KDF filters are equally suitable for chlorine and chloramine removal [and other man-made chemicals, such as found in soaps].

KDF works best when it is used along with active carbon or better yet, Supercarbon. You will often find a multi-stage filter that uses KDF 55 or 85 among the stages.

KDF 85 is specially formulated for sulfur, iron and heavy metal removal. Based on water flow-rate, KDF 85 will eliminate up to 99 percent of lead, iron, sulfur, mercury, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals. For those who have any issue whatsoever with flavor in your water, we highly suggest getting the KDF 85 filter.

Sediment Filters

Sediment can fill up and clog or fill more costly filters. The simplest thing to filter from the water, and lowest, is sediment. For those who have a lot of sediment in your water, you'd save money by buying an inexpensive sediment filter to put before the rest of the filters. There are whole-house sediment filters in addition to point-of-use sediment filters. We would suggest using both if your water is coming out of a well or for any reason comprises a whole lot of sediment. Sediment filters are usually assembled into multi-layer carbon filters. Carbon block or ceramic filters create great sediment filters also.
